The Farmington Community Garden will host “Plein Air Art in the Garden” on June 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date scheduled for June 20.
The event is open to the public and welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, chair or umbrella, pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic at the garden. Live music and cold drinks will be provided under the garden’s shade tree.
From the French “en plein air,” which essentially means “outdoors,” the art is created with nature surrounding the artists, who are free to work in a variety of media, including watercolor, paint, pen, and pencil. Cash prizes will be awarded, with sponsorship provided by First State Community Bank.
Judging is scheduled for 3 p.m., with cash awards to follow. To be eligible for judging, artwork must be created on-site during the event.
All participants will have the opportunity to display their work in the “Art in the Garden” exhibit at the public library during July and August.
The event will be held at the Farmington Community Garden, located at the corner of Boyce and Perrine streets.
