MONROE, La. (KNOE) – In honor of National Garden Week, the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana held an official ribbon cutting for its new season.

Over 8 years, the outdoor space has become a place to help children and families learn and grow through hands-on experiences.

The garden is free to the public for any family that wants to participate.

Officials with the Children’s Coalition hope the garden brings more kids outdoors to play.

“They lack connection and just like growing something, putting a seed in the ground, in of itself is a connection to something else. But also, when you’re doing with other people, there’s like nothing like making a friend over doing something outside,” said Maggie Stack, Children’s Coalition Garden maintenance coordinator.

The garden is filled with more than 20 types of plants, educational activities, and opportunities to promote healthy habits that could last a lifetime.

“It’ll teach these kids different aspects of gardening and healthy living. And one day these kids will teach their kids and it’ll go on forever, hopefully,” said Taylor Cagle, Origin Bank Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending.

You can visit the free garden anytime, it is located behind the Children’s Coalition building in Monroe.
