Is this guy gonna survive? 🥺😭 these cuttings come from a very dear friend of mine in his 80s. The weed whacker got hooked on the longer grass or something and before I knew it the cutting was all ate up. I am so upset!! It has been thriving up until now, better than the other root cutting. He only gives them out in early spring. I was so proud of how it was doing. Tips? Advice?

just let it be, it will grow back…

The weed whacker is less of a problem than all that grass growing around them.

I would pull the grass and put down a ring of mulch that is at least 1’ all the way around the plant.

A new cane comes up every year anyways, the old one dies this year or next.

    You vastly underestimate its power…

But really, try to pull the grass/weeds around it by hand for awhile

As an old, angry, racist, but pretty good landscaper I work for (for about 2 weeks) would say (with a lisp):

“Soak the piss out of it”

    It’ll come back.

What you need is mulch. Lots of mulch. Leaves or wood chips work great.
