Hello all, we had about 100 red pines removed from behind our house that were in perfect rows/plantation like. In between these pines were several mature red maple trees. When having the pines cleared, we asked that they preserve the maples to regenerate the woods. Now they are multiple large maples (8in diameter trunks x30feet high) that bend and occasionally snap in pretty mild thunderstorms. Are these trees weak from growing next to red pines? Why are they all bending and breaking? Do I just need to clear them all out?

I’m no expert, by any means, but I imagine removing the pines has significantly changed how much wind the maples receive. I don’t know if weak is the right word, but they grew under certain conditions that have now changed. Remove or keep is up to you. Personally, I’d keep them and let natural selection do its thing, but I like red maples.
They’ll grow funny, they might pick back up and give you some funny J hooks, I’m worried about their roots. Really
