Good morning Saturday Morning Garden Blog-Friends, old and new! This cheerful long-running tradition appears every Saturday morning at 9am Eastern, and lasts well into the week as conversations percolate. A core crew of us reads every comment, as far into the week as it goes. Anyone who likes to garden or talk about gardening or gardening-adjacent topics and whatever they devolve into… WELCOME!

Hello and good morning from my patio garden here in the PNW! Spring is turning to summer quickly now and it is time for me to start getting some veggie transplants and herbs to fill in all my various containers. Yes, I do only container gardening being in an apartment that has a lovely little private patio area with no ground to plant in.

From the top left on the back table: a fuchsia, a duo of calibrachoa in red, purple petunias, and nemesia. In the tray on the deck from left to right: garden sage, rosemary (there are two), a yellow pear tomato, and two sun sugar tomatoes. I was thrilled to find that the nemesia is vanilla-scented just like a white one I had many years ago from a Portland nursery.

I got these new plants on Thursday evening and have spent most of Friday making decisions on where to put what. Still some work to do but I got the tomatoes into grow bags:

I had been thinking of putting my pineapple sage into one of the wooden planter boxes I got that are in front of the deck but they are a lot more shallow than I realized and the plant really wants to spread. So, I decided to give it it’s own whole grow bag. Then I put the fuchsia in the big pot that I had just emptied out. The columbine have done flowering and I am letting them go to seed. The hollyhocks behind them have huge leaves but may not get enough sun to send up flowers. We’ll see🙂

The Greek oregano, garlic chives, and lemon thyme are all returning plants and have gotten rather big! I need to trim all three of them.

Then it was time to make some dinner (a yummy shwarma paneer bowl from Hello Fresh) and let the rest wait until tomorrow.

We have a bit of a swing this week in our weather where it looks like cool and rainy to start then going way up to the 90’s by next weekend. This past spring has been a mix of heat and then cool rain so I am grateful we are getting more rain before the heat really comes in July. June is usually a pleasant month here and I am already enjoying the scent of petunias and nemesia wafting in on the evening breeze.

And because I may not be around when this goes up (at 6 AM my time) I will pay my🐱tax ahead of time:

Happy Saturday all!
