Students in the fifth-grade service club at Ludington Elementary with Sara Roesler enjoyed working in the U Dig It garden youth beds on Wednesday afternoon.
Julia Chambers, president of AFFEW, was delighted to have some young volunteers from the service club put in some plants and seeds and put straw on the beds.
She said she visits the service club from time to time to share about AFFEW’s U Dig It youth summer program and outdoor topics, so it was nice for the students to have that hands-on experience with gardening.
“The kids really want to plant. They were excited that I had plants to give them to take home,” Chambers said, who gave them six flats of veggies and flowers she grew this year.
