Life-size dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals went on display on Friday at Descanso Gardens with the opening of Dinosaurs at Descanso Railroad, a new attraction featuring large-scale creatures alongside the garden’s popular miniature railroad.
“Step back in time for an unforgettable opening weekend at Descanso Railroad, where dinosaurs come to life across the miniature train landscapes,” officials said.
Opening weekend activities scheduled through Sunday include fossil discovery exhibits at Magnolia Court, dinosaur-themed activities for children and opportunities for guests to participate in the gardens’ Summer Passport program.

Visitors also can explore dinosaur installations throughout Descanso Railroad and the Ancient Forest while collecting limited-edition stickers.
“Summer at Descanso is really about the joy of being outside together,” Descanso Gardens CEO Juliann Rooke said in a statement. “We’ve built a season where music, art and nature converge in one of LA’s most magical settings. And this summer, we are particularly excited to have dinosaurs at Descanso Railroad.”
The dinosaur attraction is part of Descanso Gardens’ summer programming lineup, which will feature concerts, art exhibitions and family-oriented events through September.
Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive and is open daily.
