MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – A new gardening web-seminar for all ages is being hosted by AARP.
The seminar is a partnership between Disability Networks of Washtenaw, Monroe, and Livingston and Sustain-Hability. It will last for two days and will showcase how to grow healthy gardens and functional garden spaces.
AARP Volunteer and Occupational Therapist Kathleen Garvey says there are numerous health benefits to gardening, and it is a great way to help your mental health.
“It has been shown to be an effective activity to help with mental health, attention, helping build people’s concentration and attention skills,” Garvey said. “You get exposed to some good bacteria by being outdoors. That really helps your gut health.”
AARP will be holding “A Taste of AARP” in Escanaba on July 23 and “Movies for Grown-Ups” on July 29 and 30 in Escanaba and Marquette. If you are interested in signing up for the gardening seminar, you can find more information on the AARP website.
