Let’s get ready to ramble: Farm, garden tour event returns to Chilliwack

A self-guided tour where the public can see picturesque private properties in the southeastern hillsides of Chilliwack is back.

The Ryder Lake Ramble returns on Saturday, June 20 and this year there are 11 locations on the map.

Ryder Lake is a historic farming community in Chilliwack and the ramble highlights some of the farms and gardens that have been around for years.

That day, folks can see farm animals like horses, llamas and goats, plus stunning gardens, chainsaw milling, 360-degree views of the mountains, and more.

Activities include yoga in lavender fields, pottery, woodworking and spinning demos.

Back this year is the popular hobbit house. With more than 500 visitors to the ‘house in the hill’ last year, visitors must sign up to see it during this year’s event. Book a time slot at the Ryder Lake Hall when purchasing tickets to the ramble.

There’s a plant sale which will be at the Ryder Lake Community Nursery (47644 Forester Rd.).

Food will also be available to purchase. There will be breakfast sandwiches from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in collaboration with the Chilliwack Fire Department Charitable Society, coffee and muffins are available all day at the hall, plus there’s a lunch menu of soup and chilli from noon onwards.

Organizers note that all stops on the ramble are private properties, many rustic in nature with hills and uneven ground. Animals can be unpredictable, especially around small children. Attendance is at the visitor’s own risk.

No pets allowed.

Admission is by donation with a suggested $10 minimum per person or $20 per family. Head to Ryder Lake Hall (49265 Elk View Rd.) to get your admission stamp and pickup the venues map.
