things to do

It’s that time of year again, when Hoboken’s historical brownstone residents open the doors to their gardens and allow others to take a tour of their hidden gardens and landscape space. The Hoboken Historical Museum has announced its annual Secret Gardens Tour for June 7th. The tour, which is a fundraiser for the museum, offers a chance to explore the gardens of the city’s private brownstones and see the ways in which greenery is preserved within the heavily urban environment. Tickets are on sale now at the Hoboken Historical Museum website. Read more to learn about the upcoming Hoboken Secret Gardens Tour.

The Details

The Hoboken Historical Museum, with the support of the Hoboken Garden Club, has announced that its annual Secret Gardens Tour will take place on June 7th from 9AM to 4PM, with the rain date for June 14th.  According to the museum, this year’s tour is a diverse mix of “lush urban retreats, thoughtfully designed courtyards, and creative outdoor spaces that reflect the personality and vision of the homeowners and gardeners behind them.” Each brownstone offers a different version of gardening and greenery within the heavily urban environment of the city. These outdoor spaces will include distinct artistic and botanical elements that create a mix of garden styles, from classic to contemporary.

The tour is self-guided, and guests can work their way through the city at their own pace. Attendees can begin uptown at the Hoboken Historical Museum located at 1301 Hudson Street or downtown at Boomerang Bites at 152 Newark Street. The museum’s rules for the tours state that high heels, pets, and strollers are not permitted on the garden grounds. They also state that food and drinks are not allowed within the houses and gardens, but encourage attendees to explore Hoboken’s restaurants and food stops outside of the tour.

Tickets are on sale now on the Hoboken Historical Museum website for $45 for early bird and museum members. Day-of tickets will be $50 each for non-members.
