A householder is baffled after their neighbours insisted they stop using their own garden – purely because the pair wanted somewhere “private” to row. The parent described how they and their partner spend considerable time outside during the warmer months as they have a young child.

From unwinding on the porch to tending plants, barbecuing meals and arranging a paddling pool, the household are generally quiet residents who keep their distance. They stated: “We’re honestly pretty low key. No parties, no huge groups of people over, no blasting music until midnight.” According to the householder, the dwellings are constructed in close proximity with boundaries nearly touching, meaning catching snippets of outdoor discussions is simply an unavoidable aspect of residing there.

They mentioned that hearing neighbours conversing in gardens throughout summer has never particularly troubled them previously.

However, matters took an uncomfortable twist when the adjacent couple ventured outdoors mid-dispute while the household were already entertaining their child outside.

The parent described attempting to disregard the raised voices and continued focusing on their own activities – until one neighbour abruptly lost their temper.

They remembered hearing the irate resident shout: “These nosey neighbours won’t go the f*** inside so we can f***ing talk.”

The astonished householder maintained they weren’t attempting to listen in and had been outdoors well before the neighbours even emerged. They stated: “Trust me, given the option I wouldn’t be out here playing floor is lava in 100 degree weather either, but here we are.”

The resident acknowledged they’ve previously overheard disputes from the neighbouring property, though only because the pair frequently shout, bang doors and lock one another out of their home multiple times weekly.

“If somebody is yelling, slamming doors and peeling out of the driveway next door, people are going to hear it,” they continued.

Following the confrontation, the homeowner revealed they now feel unexpectedly uneasy simply enjoying their own garden space.

They described how their porch typically serves as the family’s relaxation spot, and they’d even recently purchased a small pool for the summer months.

Seeking guidance from others online, they wondered whether it was reasonable for neighbours to expect everyone in the vicinity to retreat indoors whenever they wished to quarrel outside.

The overwhelming majority firmly supported the family, as one said: “Your neighbours are dumb. You go inside for a private convo, not outside.”

Another added: “There is absolutely no reason why you should be chased out of your own yard because your neighbours want to fight in theirs.”

Meanwhile, one user said: “I’m the neighbour that would yell back to take the fight inside so the whole damn neighbourhood doesn’t have to hear it.”
