Okay, what’s your strawberry situation right now? 🍓
1. Flowers but no berries
2. Tiny berries
3. Berries stop growing
4. Runners taking over
Thanks for this info.
My first strawberry planter was a Mr. Stacky 12” 5 tier version. I thought it would be great, but come July and August it needed watered twice a day. Pouring water over it fast with a watering can didn’t really work with its auto water distribution system. I killed strawberries a couple times and not much fruit.
I got a Leaf GreenStalk and it’s so much better more soil in there and a nice watering mechanism. I don’t even set up the auto irrigation I have for it. Mostly strawberry and a few flowers in that one.
Later I got a $20 mini solar pump to put on top of the shallow Mr. Stacky. It now auto waters once or twice a day, depending on the season. Their water distribution system works great when it’s a slow trickle feeding it at the top. Water drips back through into the water bucket. Strawberry roots have grown through and fused the tiers. I couldn’t really amend the soil much because of it. It’s essentially hydroponic at this point. They look great though. Better than ever and I don’t need to get drip irrigation over to it.
Im in Ashland oregon and the weather is giving us whiplash 😢 90° days then 40°-35° nights has everything stalled. My first berry got got by an earwig 😢 oh then my smaller greenhouse blew over and ruined all my starts and cacti 😃🤣😭
I went out today to check out my in ground strawberry bed and I have some plants that have at least 20 green strawberries on 1 plant. I've never seen this before. I'm wondering should I thin some out or leave them all on🤔
I mentioned in a past comment that you're in cali and I'm in Ky. So maybe not good info for me but I must say, you really have great information for everyone no matter where you are. Timing may be different but something like this applies to everyone everywhere. Thank you 😊💚❤️
Oh and my strawberry situation rn is odd. My june bearing are not growing, doing nothing. My ever bearing are growing…crowns are not buried.
Thank for those tips kim girl having start my strawberry from seeds and I hear that train what kind of plant food does strawberry plant need🍓🍓🍓🍓
What great Timing for nz! I just bought 8 Cabrillo, and 8 Monterey (always think of you guys when Monterey shows up lol) runners to plant!!!! Can’t get enough strawberries. Me AND the wildlife 😂❤❤❤
Ha, the issue in the garden is me. Don't forget if a variety doesn't work for you, try a different one. I grow Albion. I've killed many plants finding out what works. If your strawberry roots are shallow then your soil isn't sandy enough. My breakthrough on strawberries was using cactus soil and adding 25% peat moss. I'm growing 1 plant per 11 to 14 inch pot. Albion was at one time the farmer's choice for growing strawberries.
Ok and I'm still going to get some bumper crop soil for my smart pots
Strong winds will also pollinate your flowers as well.
Ok 🍓🍓🍓🍓
I'll need to grow more flowers just for the pollination. Great info. In the past, I always got the bumpy strawberries, and occasionally I got a few full berries — which at times the squirrels would beat me to. I have always tried to grow bare root strawberries with little success. Most of them would die, so this year I did buy a six pack of strawberry plants to set out. Hoping for a better success at keeping these alive. 😄
Very good show 😀
This was very helpful. I think where I went wrong was not so much burying the crown in soil, but allowing the mulch to bury the crown. I was wondering why my strawberry plants died off.
I have all of the above. Thank you Calikim for making this great video.♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
This has shown up at a great time for me.
Great strawberry info 🍓 My strawberries are just waking up from dormancy here in zone 6a Ohio.
