I grew up in Hawai'i growing Hawaiian chili peppers as my primary pepper for cooking and making traditional as well as my own recipe of chili pepper water. These just arrived from my friend on Kaua'i so I can start new plants since I had to leave mine behind when I moved to the mainland to Florida due to agriculture laws exporting plants from Hawai'i. My last plants from seed were 5 feet tall before I moved and probably 500 peppers on every plant all year long. That was a sad day leaving them behind but they're in good hands.
Got 'em in the mail today after being shipped 3 days ago and already planted two large planters. I'll pick several of the strongest plants from what germinates as I've always done and put them in their own pots to mature.
For those not familiar, these are a staple of Hawai'i and Hawaiian culture. Very similar to tobasco peppers as they grow with the base upwards instead of hanging down. They have a great heat and taste and can be used in just about anything. Usually around 1" or so in size and the plant when mature puts out a TON of them constantly in the right climate.
It's nice to have a part of Hawai'i here with me on my mainland journey. I've missed these little buggaz.
