I have these Ash trees saplings growing in the beds on the north side of my house- no idea where they came from but they are way too close to stay.

Based on where they are growing should I put them in my tree line? I have 2 acres of open field im trying to get trees to grow in so I'd love to put them there but I want them to do well.

You should move them sooner than later, if you have space for them somewhere else. The older they get, the more extensive their roots become and the greater the potential injury (to the tree) from moving them without a pro.

But… you might also want to consider whether these trees are the best fit for your area. Are they native? Have you checked with the state/local ag dept to find out if Emerald Ash Borer is a risk in your area that you may inadvertently spread? Just because they’re coming up for free doesn’t mean they’re the best thing to provide tree cover in that open space.

Either way, you don’t want a big ol’ ash that close to your house, lol.

    Best of luck!
