MEDFORD, Ore. – Memory Gardens Memorial Park and Mortuary held their annual ceremony Monday in honor of veterans and in observance of the holiday.
Community members gathered at 11 a.m. that morning to hear from guest speakers, place flowers in honor of loved ones and hear about those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony honored U.S. Army Private Frank Charles High, who was a presidential medal of honor recipient. He, along with others, were recognized for their heroics during the Philippine-American War, charging across a burning bridge, engaging enemy forces, despite being under heavy fire. He lived in Ashland until his death at 91 years old. He is buried at Memory Gardens.
Staff at the memorial park and mortuary said events like Monday’s honor veterans like Private High, while bringing the community together. General Manager Holly Fox said,
“It’s important for every community to come together and show our support for these veterans and just really demonstrate to their families that we remember and we honor their sacrifice.”
High’s family was presented with a flag.
