I decided to make plant labels for the plants in my front yard! Some information:

– the labels in red are for plants that are non native to Belgium, according to waarnemingen.be (observation.org). The labels in black are for plants that are native.

– I made the labels from cans (sinas, cola, ice tea). Then used metal letter stamps to hammer the letters into the labels. Then traced the letters with UV resistant ink.

– For holding the labels, I used half a bamboo skewer. I cut the top 3 cm of the skewer in half, lengthwise. Slid in the label and turned it so that it stays stuck. We'll have to see how well the skewers hold up.

Not all of the plants have been labelled yet. I did this to entertain and educate myself, but also others!

  1. I hope Belgians have better luck pronouncing these names than I had. De Bruyne and Hazard are easier to say, thankfully.

Love these! I only got into plants after moving to an English-speaking country and now a feeling like I dodged a bullet. Dagkoeksbloem? Hilarious! I am going to start using Dutch flower names to curse at people.
