A catch basin can do a lot more than most DIYers realize — but only if it’s set right.

In this video, Robert shows an important catch basin detail that helps with long-term access, maintenance, and performance. This basin is set slightly recessed and designed to stay accessible as a cleanout and sediment trap. That means if any shingle gravel comes off the roof, it can be collected right here before it becomes a bigger problem down the line.

The risers also make it easy to bring the basin up to the proper height while keeping the system clean and serviceable. And if needed, you can always run a garden hose up inside the pipe through this cleanout.

It’s a simple setup detail, but it matters.

Set it right, and the whole system works better.
