Hi! Any advice is useful to me. The first two pictures are of my dahlias that seem to be growing so skinny. The last photo is one I started inside and it’s nice and bushy but these ones are looking strange. I’m wondering what I should do. This is my first year and I know my pots look small but I’m gonna attempt to keep them in the pots just because our dirt is the opposite of well draining and I’d rather keep them in the pots with this nice draining mix. I’ve already lost one tuber to rot and I feel so disappointed. I’m in zone three and I’m keeping them in a greenhouse. I have a little heat fan that I’ve been turning on when it gets cold.

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:
When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!
*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).
If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.
If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

Your pots are way undersized! Get some 7 gallon grow bags. And sturdier stakes. These look too wimpy. They look very dry. Water them. Did you use a good potting soil?
