Gardeners hoping for bigger blooms and healthier roses should stock up on two products recommended by an RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal-winning grower.

Tina Limmer, of Peter Beales Roses in Norfolk, revealed the feeds her team swears by to keep plants healthy and flowering at their best. The nursery, founded in 1968 and showcasing the new Kate Moss rose at this year’s show, relies on products that are widely available in garden centres.

Speaking to the Express beside the spectacular stand in the Great Pavilion, Tina said feeding is the secret to producing beautiful roses.

“A lot of liquid feed. Feed, feed, feed,” she said.

“You get better colour, better perfume and better health. If the foliage starts looking a bit pale then increase it.

She also said that rose should be sprayed with Uncle Tom’s Rose Tonic, a natural plant food formulated with potassium phosphiten that improves foliage health, and helps protect roses against common diseases like black spot and powdery mildew without harming beneficial insects

“They have to be sprayed too, because you might get one of two that are prone to mildew. You don’t want them to kick off,” she said.

“We spray them with uncle tom’s tonic which natural, its organic. It thickens the top of the camber of the leaf to stop the blackspot spores drilling in.”
