When the tree leafed out a month or so ago, only half of it did. I thought that the other half might just be a late bloomer (is that a thing? ), but I'm concerned that it's dead or dying. Everything from the main trunk is doing just fine. It's the secondary trunk (seen on the right) that nothing seems to be growing on. I scratched off a little bark on one of the stems and it looks like it's still green(ish). Is there any hope, or do I need to prune that whole side off?

Smoke bush could probably use some rejuvenation pruning. It’s pretty much at its max height right now, but if you prune out the dead and trim it back a bit you can get it to look more full with sucker growth
So what appears to be dead is officially dead? I don’t mind cutting it all out. I just didn’t want to jump the gun if was just being slow.
Thanks for the advice! I’ll give it a trim.
