The La Jolla Historical Society’s Secret Garden Tour this year offered ticket-holders more chances to choose their own experience as they visited local gardens May 16 and saw musicians, plein air artists and dining table designs.

In addition to the self-guided tour of six gardens — the locations of which were kept secret until the day of the event — guests could opt for add-ons including a buffet lunch and a talk by a master gardener and/or a bonus garden with exclusive access to a seventh location.

Historical Society Executive Director Lauren Lockhart said the majority of the gardens on this year’s tour had never been on it before.

The tour is one of the Historical Society’s key fundraisers, with proceeds benefiting its free public programs, school tours and Wisteria Cottage gallery. ♦
