Cheryl Hicks will present “Creating Beautiful Garden Spaces” when the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society meets 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Redlands Church of the Nazarene, 1307 E. Citrus Ave.
Hicks and her husband, Tony, are the owners and designers of The Gardens of Wild Oak Farms on Live Oak Canyon Road in Redlands, which began as a farm specializing in tall bearded iris and has evolved into gardens in a 10-acre venue that hosts private events, according to a news release from the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society.
The Gardens of Wild Oak Farms was a bonus garden on the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society’s 2023 garden tour, and in 2025, the Gardens hosted the Region 15 Spring Trek for the American Iris Society.
In her presentation for the Horticultural Society, Hicks will cover the basics of garden design, what to look for in planting spaces and types of plants, and will discuss growing tall bearded iris in the garden.
The Gardens of Wild Oak Farms has more than 400 varieties of tall bearded iris, along with trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals, and Hicks has recently won awards for three of her hybridized tall bearded iris seedlings, according to the news release. She has also won awards for her floral arrangements and iris show stalks.
She is a member of the Inland Region Iris Society and the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society.
The Horticultural Society’s program is free and open to the public.
