CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake Area Garden Club will host its annual plant sale from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Crosslake Corps of Engineers picnic shelter next to the dam at 35507 County Road 66 in Crosslake.

All plants are locally grown or dug from club members’ gardens, which provides easy transition to other gardens since the plants are already acclimated to this area.

The sale will again include perennials, annuals, vegetables and flowers. The “Market” includes fun garden accents and yard art for gardens.

Last year the club sold over 550 plants and donated over 100 plants to the Crosslake Food Shelf. Revenues from the plant sale help fund monthly educational presentations at meetings and donations to horticulture-related nonprofit organizations within a 40-mile radius of Crosslake.

Last year the club collectively donated $1,000 to the following organizations: Emily Food Shelf Garden, Northland Arboretum earmarked for their Children’s Gardens, Crosslake Community School for the grades 1/2 class that grows and sells plants to raise money for their home economics program, the Breezy Point Community Gardens and Balsam Moon Preserve.

The Crosslake Area Garden Club is celebrating over 30 years and includes over 50 members. The club meets at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Crosslake Community Center.

Consider joining the club; dues are $10 annually. To stay current on updated events, follow “Crosslake Area Garden Club” on Facebook.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “Pineandlakes Echo Journal.” Often, the “Pineandlakes Echo Journal” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
