Location: Central Queensland.

So this weed popped up in my lawn around 12-18 months ago. Lived in many houses throughout the region yet this weed is new to me. It's a creeper variety of plant so it stays low to the ground. It starts from a central point and then starts new nodes about 30cm away. The root system is often a single thick very deep root, so trying to rip it out of the ground by the thin viney stems coming out of it ends in failure more often than not. When I get slack with mowing and the grass gets long I often don't even notice it until I've mowed over the top of it. By that stage I've removed all the grass around it and this then outcompetes everything. I've also likely spread the seeds everywhere by that point too. The seeds grow in clusterered pods with many individual seeds inside, the pods starting green (pic 3) and then transitioning to a brown colour (pic 1). The flowers (pic 2) have little red petals on them.

My first thought was to use a weed n feed, but I don't know if this type of plant would die the way I want it to from that. Failing that I thought I'd switch to roundup or something similar, but because it creates a network rather than being a single plant I thought it would kill all the surrounding grass by the time I'm through with it. I've tried digging them up but it's difficult without digging up half the yard to get to one cluster.

    Bloody Creeping Indigo!

Weed n feed does take it out, but the seeds in their millions grow back. I use a small hand-mattock and put on gloves to pull out the root. Laborious, but there it is. Here’s some tips from council.

I had this little bastard at my old house. I used dicamba on the lawn and took out most of it. I needed a few treatments as it kept popping up.

Burning. Singe the leaves and it will die.
