Every month, here in Subtropical Australia, we plant a new bed in our vegetable garden. This strategy ensures that we always have something to harvest and helps avoid the feast or famine that often comes with growing your own food. This month, I’m planting two beds since I have the space. Follow along for tips on how to plant your own garden.

In the Clarence Valley here, and it just struck me…oh, it's autumn. I've been putting in the usual suspects over the past week or so, and the fire's on at 5….but you wouldn't know it by the days.
Your broccoli was far too leggy.
I was greeted this morning at the back door by a big black wallaby. What do they eat ?
Its been raining off and on since Friday the 24th, great excuse to stay indoors studying gardening.
Ah yes, what are bulbs? Your mention of fennel : I wasn't interested in fennel growing, it looks like a plant from another planet but since you mention its companion virtues it might become my friend. I hate cabbage moth and fantacise about killing them with extreme prejudice, like with a can of WD40 and a cigarette lighter😂
You and your veggie beds are an inspiration for me. I am in Geraldton, WA. I wish my veggies grew as well as yours. The heat, wind and bugs in summer ravage and stunt their growth. ☮️
I know you have done a video on doing your seedlings a few times, but do you remember which one you mentioned where you got those particular multi cell pots? Cheers loving your seeds.
It's been raining so much this month I'm just planting water lilies. 😂
Enjoyed this video. Thanks!
thank you for sharing good process
I just planted my first snow pea seeds for the year in SEQ and was worried I left it too late, so glad to hear you just planted out some more.
Great info for those of us in sub tropical gardens. My tomatoes are growing so much better now than in summer. Autumn is such a great season for growth in this area.
Thanks for the video.
With your goldies mix can plant or sow straight away you don’t need to let the bed rest? Is that the same with the 5 in 1?
I normally let me bed rest for a week or 2 but if I can plant straight into it even better 😊
My tomatoes from bunnings did terrible. Heat affected. I cut back, lay it on its side and buried the stem for more root development and now in May I am getting a good crop of flowers coming on. I do protect them from cold winds.
I found there is one raised planter that is a no fail spot for sprouting seeds so I sow everything into that. The soil just keeps on giving me new crops. I collect seeds from one good plant, letting it go to flower then each season replant from that. I’m now in my 3rd & 4th generation of seeds.
Looking great Nicki. Need to get some of those rocket seeds! Had much rain at your place?
Can you tell me where is the best place to buy the wire that your cucumber was growing up – is there a name for it?
Did you miss out on all the rain the last two weeks . I'm on the coast east of Brisbane and after 6 months of drought , finally got beautiful, useable rain.
We are having issues with too much water in our wicking beds. Can you suggest what to do with the soil if it is holding onto too much water please? Will you also do a video of setting up that wicking bed?
With respect ……. its broccoli pronounced broccolee as in Zucchini. Just as zucchini is not pronounced zucchin eye.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but there's a reason you've been algo-delivered to me. I don't know why yet, but the universe will show me one day 💚
When you do the wicking bed, can you film it, as my old "sleeper" beds are rotting and I was interested in those IBC's you have. Thanks, I love your videos as I live in the bayside and your content is applicable to me.
Great video as usual Nicki. Thank you for your time: My veges are a bit behind yours ; growth wise, but you can only do as the weather permits. The heat just lasts a bit longer and so do bugs😩. Yukama Peas look great, and I’ve little fennel everywhere from last years plant. I love it. Had to control grubs too, with Yates Organic Pest , garlic is up, and all my other seeds. Hoping for some rain, I wish. 😊
Aaannnd a vid for cold climates for May in Oz??…….☘️🌱🌿😊😊😊
May I ask how you deal with possums and rats without putting up barriers? Thanks.
I’ve planted peas/beans twice now but both times they have died. I’m not too sure how either. The life slowly drains from them and they turn brown.
Thanks for the great video Nicki. I’m also in SEQ so your data is very relevant.
Great timing! I was just looking for what to start in my garden this month.
👍🛎♥️♥️♥️
Thanks
Wallaby’s will eat if it is green 😂😂
Mice will eat the seeds and leave the hulls which makes you think the seeds are still present 😊
Can you do a video for irrigation, how you did yours, do it like you were explaining to a child😅 I’m really visual and I haven’t found a really good video to teach me how to do it for my raised beds, other creators on YouTube always skip filming how they do things😬
I see you're still persisting with that osmocote seedling mix 😂 i'm going to try Rocky Point's seedling mix while I'm still waiting for my compost. I'm sure it will be better than the stuff from Bunnings.
Hi! Do you have a video on ur irrigation in the garden beds? I am yet to work out how to do this 🙂
I started my seedlings 3rd of May on a full moon.
I bought copper rods from Temu, and my seedlings are doing so well. I have 34 seedlings 🌱
I prayed over them when I started and pray every day that God will grow them strong and hardy and I can feed my family and local community who are also growing food so we can all share. My first time doing this and loving it.
