Hey there, noob here. I bought my mom a small round metal tin of lavender – it looked really pretty. I read that they need lots of sunlight and to be careful watering it.
So I put it in my west facing windowsill – where it has gotten a nice amount of direct sunlight over the past 5 days since I got it.
The soil is EXTREMELY dry and almost like in seperate dense blocks. it doesnt look or feel right down there. I havent watered it at all.
Today i got home from work and saw almost all of the flowers are already drooping to the side. What could have went wrong here? Should I water? try to fix the soul? It feels bare in the middle, and soil is just packed along the edges. Did it get too much sun? Thanks for any and all help! I feel so bad when these guys start hurting.

You need to water it! I don’t think you ever want your plants soil to be hard
It’s a full sun plant that wants to be outdoors. It will die a slow and tragic death if left in that pot inside. Lavender is not an indoor plant
I think the soil feels hard and dense because it’s in peat. Put it in well draining soil. That being said, my lavender is currently looking really sad also :,( they’re very finicky
Agree with everyone mentioning water. Also check the roots – often there are “death pods” strangling the roots. They are about 1”-2” in diameter and feel / look like fabric
I’m almost certain this wants to be planted outdoors. Could be in a container, but might be best directly in the ground.
Lavender needs a lot of light and likes to spread out, like a bush. It can survive in a drought and needs specific sandy soil like many wildflowers. I don’t know anything about keeping it indoors but I’d imagine it will not do well in a pot. Depending on where you live, this plant is likely forced if it’s not lavender season. No plant is meant to live long when it’s forced.
Op where are you located?
If this were mine and I wasnt ready to put it outside yet… I would get it in a pot with drainage holes and cactus soil mixed with normal soil for better drainage.
Thanks for the tips. I am going to plant this thing outside and hope it pulls through. Im very new to this, and eager to learn. And I dont trust AI. Please can someone also help me with my other plant! Thank you guys, you are lifesavers [https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/comments/1tclim9/cling_on_anastasia_ficus_benjamina_growing_white/](https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/comments/1tclim9/cling_on_anastasia_ficus_benjamina_growing_white/)
