The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has been ranked among the UK’s top three spring gardens in new research analysing visitor reviews and seasonal appeal.

The study, carried out by photo printing company CEWE, examined Google star ratings, review numbers and the language used by visitors to identify the country’s highest-rated spring gardens.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh placed third in the UK rankings with 656 spring-related reviews and an overall Google rating of 4.7 stars from more than 24,000 reviews.

The research highlighted the garden’s 70-acre grounds, city skyline views and diverse collection of more than 13,500 plant species from 157 countries.

Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in London claimed the top spot with 1,835 spring-related reviews, while Chatsworth House in Derbyshire came second.

Edinburgh was the only Scottish city to feature twice in the rankings, with Princes Street Gardens placing 13th overall with 284 spring-related reviews.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens ranked 18th.

Founded in the 17th century, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh remains one of the capital’s best-known visitor attractions and scientific institutions.

Other gardens recognised in the rankings included Stourhead in Wiltshire, The Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall and Powis Castle and Garden in Wales.
