I have been checking the forecast every day. I left my seedlings out at night a week or so ago, and they went into shock after weeks of hardening off. They’re back inside, slowly recoBering. The forecast for May is a wild one, I’m seeing a low of 46 ten days from now.
repost because my last one was removed for… no reason?

Chicago suburbs here, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants went out last weekend. I covered them on the night it went down to 40 and they were okay. Cucumbers might go out this weekend…depending on whether next Thursday with a low of 48 is the lowest the forecast gets… they’re getting big and I’m scared of disturbing their roots if they get much bigger
I am so glad I waited. I got half meter tall Coeur de Boeufs that need to leave their pots, but nights can go down do 5° C still so I decided to hold out until next Saturday.
Today, quail egg sized hail fell.
Debating the same thing here in 4b. Friday was looking like a good window was low temps settle at around 50, but they again changed the forecast and middle of next week there’s a couple low 40s in there.
…but only so much longer my starts can remain indoors! Well, I’m sure they can….
This weekend! Im from Belgium. Last year i did it sooner but the plants survived and thrived 😉
Mine spent the night on my front porch for the first time last night. I need to go check on them.
They’re going back into the garage tonight. Between the wind and the cold, they’re just not ready for it. Oh, but it’ll be 80 by the weekend with lows of 60 which is what today’s high should be.
I don’t have my tomato beds prepped so I couldn’t plant them yet if I wanted to.
I still have to amend my beds, but there’s no rush. We always get one more/last dump of snow May long. Nightly temps are still consistently around 0-5°C, so hopefully by early June it’ll warm up.
I bit the bullet and planted out last week, and of course the temps have dipped so basically no growth since then 😅
Boston area, 1 tomato went out last week and is doing fine. I’m planning on hardening off my peppers, tomato, corn, cucumbers and warm season flowers throughout the next few days. Planning to plant them Sunday evening.
After this weekend. Overnights are still ~4°C here, next week we’re up to 10°C so the tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers will be planted over the weekend
Planting this Sunday hopefully. Sat should be in 70s and hoping it will warm up soil for a Sunday dig.
I am having tree work done in my yard near my garden on Friday the 22nd. So, I’m filling my beds after that and going for it
I started planting things out yesterday. 😀
I’m sacrificing one of each to my cheap outdoor greenhouse and if they fare well their friends will follow. 6b
Upstate South Carolina here I planted this week.
Missouri here, zone 6b
Everything has been out since 4/19. (Seeds started 3/3, hardened off for a week prior.) Tomatoes, cucumbers, Brussels, jalapeños, and biquinho peppers.
I’m probably not the best example as we have had dips down into the upper 30s and low 40s several of those nights. No, they were not covered. Everyone is growing great and I have fruit setting on the tomatoes and have picked a cucumber so far. I attribute it to luck mostly, and having a bit of a valley in the backyards creating somewhat of a microclimate helping to keep temps a few degrees higher during the low temps hours.
Planting mine tomorrow and keeping my fingers crossed 🤞
Im in MA zone 7b my last night in the 40s is supposed to be friday night. So i plan on planting tomatoes this weekend! Might hold off a bit longer on peppers and cucs/squash.
I’ve been planting out several at a time over the past 1-2 weeks. Got a low of 37F night before last so I used frost covers on peppers and eggplant and they are ok. Tomatoes are still ok in their 6″ pots so I’ll let them ride in there until they max out the containers.
In Virginia, 7a-ish. I’ve had my tomatoes out for weeks, peppers out for two weeks, and now cukes and squash out. Lowest low was around 42 for 2 nights and they’ve been thriving. Are soil temps okay? I would plant out if I were you, but I’ve been lucky with my plants surviving cold temps the past couple years.
