Definitely do more please π
Honeyberry….you need a polinator variety to get a yield, not a "better" yield. They will not yield anything without it. Make sure its a variety that will bloom at the same time. Cover with insect netting once they get blue, then wait 2 weeks for them to becone sweet. Do not use bird netting….birds love Honeyberry/Hascap, and they will get tangled up in the bird netting unless the netting cavities are very small.
I definitely want to incorporate more perennial edible plants into my garden spaces! Please do more videos on the subject.
Perenial down to what temperature in celsius?
Another perennial not often grown is Toona Sinensis (Beef and Onion plant) who's leaves have a very beef like flavour. I've been growing one outside in Dublin, Ireland so it would easily grow in your climate Huw.
Huw what amazing edible perennial plants I've never seen before there so attractive as well thanks β€
I definitely need the latin names and other names written down if I would like to even have slight a chance of finding that to buy.
Every year my chickens eventually pick all the leaves off my goji berry. This spring I finally had my first berry… One single fruit from a large plant. Right now I just let it grow though as it's one of the plants I'll be planting around the perimeter of my new chicken run and goat paddocks for an edible hedge that'll grow through the fencing.
Goji fruit will spread and take over just be aware. And the flavor it ok but its something you need to get used it. I actually like a few every day fresh, and my hens go nuts for them.
Love more of these videos! Any chance you could provide links to where we can buy the seeds to all these?
"Does that make me a giraffe…. moo!" Lol
Oh thank you Huw,
WOW! Thank you for making this very informative video.
So many different perennial plants to grow in "Hunger Gape".
But unfortunately many of the plants you have in your garden, especially the Hungry Gap ones, are not available here in South Africa.
The only way to get them is to order from seed companies overseas, that is if they can send to SA.
I love your videos, really stunning colours.
Tell your
Oops! Please tell your Camera man, he is a really great videos.

have you got any udo plants?
Honeyberry aren't ripe yet, and white or green berries are horribly tart…you're faking it! As they turn blue, cover-up with insect NETTING, then wait 2 weeks and when they easily come off stem, that's when they're ripe and sugary.
Air potatoes, maypop and taro are coming up (May). Don't forget apios americana! Toon (beef & onions plant) and yellowhorn are also widely adaptable perennials and super producers.
My 9 Star Broccoli seeds arrived just the other day, can't wait! Now to find the space π
Leaves of goji are edible. We add them to soups at the last minute before serving.
Small leaf lime, very early tender leaves (almost translucent) otherwise a bit tough.
Heard about perennial brassicas a few years ago but couldn't find where to buy them from. Will definitely try again now
The teaser teased enough. I am eager to see more. Thank you.
