After doing the necessary cleaning, painting and other work, Sellner said she decided to have an event on Mother’s Day and basically had two days to prepare. Thankfully, she added, she had family members with her during the event to help and cheer her on.
Sellner said after the grand opening event, she will have regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. She said if there is a big event, such as a dance recital in which many people will be looking to buy flowers, she may stay open later into the evening.
Sellner currently lives in Twin Lakes and has been a resident of the area for about 25 years. When she is not working as a florist, Sellner said she enjoys spending time outdoors and working on her own personal gardens.
Even after working with plants all day, she said, being in a garden always helps her unwind.
One thing Sellner said she wants to focus on at Scent-Sational Florals is selling a variety of unique containers and decorations to go with her arrangements. For example, if someone really enjoys horses, fishing or another activity, she would like to have flower pots and vases that correspond with that. She said it would also be fun to sell sports-related decorations, especially since people in the area are so into hockey. She also plans to have containers and decorations that are not specialized and could work for any occasion.
“I’ll have traditional stuff, but I also want to have unique things that you normally don’t see,” she said.
Sellner said she also wants to give back to the community by offering a 10 percent discount for all active-duty military and veterans as well as law enforcement and fire rescue. She has had a lot of family members who served in these roles, she said, so it is important for people to know she appreciates the work they do.
Now that Mother’s Day is over for the year, Sellner said she anticipates the next big event for Scent-Sational Florals will be Memorial Day weekend.
“I know a lot of people love Memorial Day. They go to cemeteries to see their loved ones and stuff like that. So that’ll be the next thing to prepare for,” she said.
