I heard monsteras thrive in humid environments like bathrooms, but my bathroom has zero windows. I also know they like indirect light, so I pointed a grow light towards the ceiling so it will reflect onto the tops of the leaves. Will this make it happy or will I regret this later?

I am not sure 😃 What beast of a grow light is that ?
Id say regret 🥲 leaves will point towards the light. If its above the leaves will point up, if its in front they will stay front facing. Ive never seen this done, but its prob for a reason 😅
yo colgarÃa la lampara para que la luz le de de arriba para abajo para que asà las hojas crezcan para arriba no a los lados o hacia abajo buscando la luz.
When you read indirect light, that is meaning sunlight. Your grow light can be above them, pointed directly at them, and it will be fine.
I know this is supposed to be about the plant but your reading material is amazing 😂
I think the light should go above or the leaves will want to go down.
I’m a super big fan of giving monstera more light but you’re light at that distance is wildly overkill. That grow light is 100w and at 6 inches you’re giving your plant 1500+ ppfd. It will absolutely fry your plant if you put it directly overhead at that distance. You need this light to be around 18inches away from your plant to give it about 400- 450 ppfd.
As an aside, if your plant does get this amount of light it will rapidly grow and need support. Like I wouldn’t be surprised if each stem on all 3+ monstera in that pot will push out new leaves every 3 weeks. It will need a support system to prop them all up in 3 months
Its a terrible thing. Monsteras *HATE* word puzzles!
Not for a big plant lover!
Looks like you’ve bought a high intensity cannabis light, which is a little overpowered for your needs, and bad for your eyes. Hang it overhead and dim it to the correct light levels. Youve got a good chance of burning the plant and your eyes with this setup.
this is just plain wrong on so many levels i can’t figure out where to start.
no bathroom, period. worst place to put any plant. you have an absolute MIS understanding of how humidity works, and what one should do about it. you want a consistent level, not a constantly changing bathroom’s yo-yo level.
no bathrooms, saunas, misting, pebble trays, or other such silliness. room humidifiers set for a constant level, or nothing. those are the two best practice options.
that lighting setup will NOT support the monstera. not just the way you effectively doubled the distance from source by shining it to the ceiling first, but the reflected light on its own is far far reduced from the original fixture’s strength/output.
(move the light away, and the intensity reduces as a function of the square of the distance. in other words, the intensity goes down in a non linear fashion. double the distance=1/4 the light, not 1/2 the light).
get that plant tf out of your bathroom, point the fixture DIRECTLY at the plant, and get the photone app. you want a bare minimum of 300 ppfd at the leaf surface. less that that ? don’t bother trying to keep a monstera, it’ll die, most likely. a slow deteriorating death. 500 ppfd and you’ll have fun enjoying good solid growth 🙂
fwiw
Yeah it is kinda insane, its gonne struggle to face its leaves at that and itll grow all squiffy.Just figure out hanging it from or attaching to the ceiling above.
Just stop it.
imagine being trapped in a bathroom all day
