The red lines are where the windows are at.. The south line on the picture is where the longer root is at. That root is 1” larger than the other window well. Think it comes from the south tree? The trees are LARGE. Maybe 60-70 years old I’ve been told
Can I cut these without damage?! I do want to cut the south tree down later this year as it’s ruining my sidewalk and ruining my sewer lines.

It’ll be fine, and an egress window is important.
Not a pro..
I think it’s far enough from the tree to not cause any (or only minor) damage.
It is highly likely that the tree has plenty of other roots. Cutting that root should not cause a long term problem.
Is it GOOD for the tree? No.
Is it BAD? Not really.
You should be okay. The general rule of thumb is 1 foot for every inch in diameter of tree – this gives you your critical root zone. That being said it looks to be about halfway (or a little more) to the dripline (edge of canopy) and ive seen loads of trees do just fine at that distance. Id expect a little dieback caused by the decrease in water and nutrient absorption – but it *should* bounce back. Id just keep a close eye on it.
Just make sure it’s a clean cut. Pruning blade on a sawzall works well.
Not bad
It’s gonna hurt the tree but be good for your house.
