Other than being able to buy it as a liquid already why even bother? Urea is already soluble in water and you can mix basically tank mix it in a bucket and fill a backpack sprayer with that. Then you can make whatever rate you want.
I'm familiar enough with tank mixing because I'm the Agriculture Tech at a Turf Research farm and it's not hard especially for most people to pre mix liquids in buckets. We even built out a sprayer that uses 5 gallon soda/beer Kegs for spraying small plots.
Side note for our spring application of N we use a 0.9lbs of N per 1k sqft immediately irrigated in with about .5 inches of water and I haven't gotten close to burning our grass. But definitely if you won't be watering your Urea in don't exceed 0.2lbs of N per 1k Sqft.

Can someone help me, I hate my yard! It’s just about all weeds and I’ve dug them up time and time again and they come back even worse it seems. My yard is almost like beach sand and from what I remember 19yrs ago it was good but over time, the weeds have taken over. Now there is 15 ft by 10 ft patch of weeds in the front then a bunch of what I call crab weeds. It basically branches and fans out from one single root and it’s like a blanket. They are thick and hold a lot of water because I have to clear out the bottom of my mower cause it cakes up all under it till I can’t mow. My yard needs some serious help but I don’t know what to do. Can I just spray this all over and would it kill the weeds? Thanks

Is buying def fluid cheaper then actual fertilizer?
The urea in DEF behaves like raw urea, but without protection:
Quickly converts to ammonia → can evaporate (volatilise)
Can burn leaves if applied incorrectly
Can leach as nitrate before plants use it
Modern fertilisers often include:
Urease inhibitors
Controlled-release coatings
DEF has none of that, so efficiency is poor.
This is way more expensive than regular fertilizer!
Prefer to use a hand spreader myself and then water the urea in but usually try to time it just before rain.

Your math is wrong def is 9lbs per gallon. Theres 2.925lbs of N per gallon at a total cost of 3.99 per gallon, your price per lb of N would be 1.36 per lb, its actually cheaper than granular 46-0-0 per lb of N. Bro your math is all kinds of wrong 46-0-0 has nothing to do with the amount of N in def. When it says 32.5% urea thats how much urea is in def. In the 46-0-0 bag there is 23 lbs of urea. You are incorrect on how much N is in def. You have to find out the weigh per gallon to find out your actual urea, urea is the % on the label not % on the label multiplied by .46. 21oz per 1000 sqft is actually .48lbs of N per 1000 sq ft

DEF will crystallize and destroy your fuel pump and injectors.
Y’all realize its very similar to 32% UAN that farmers put on their fields for corn production. We use it all the time here in Iowa. Thats why it works as fertilizer
