The spring planting season is finally here. Learn how you can support your community, your garden, and your family at a free two-day event this weekend.

For over 20 years, the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Butler County have been showcasing the endless possibilities to elevate your garden spaces.

This year’s plant sale event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 15, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Butler City Farmers’ Market building, 209 S. Chestnut St., Butler.

Parking, admission and activities are free. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted for purchases. The Penn State Extension Master Gardener program hosts this event in cooperation with the City of Butler, Butler Downtown, Butler Eagle and Butler Radio Network. To learn more about this event, visit facebook.com/ butlermg/events.

The Master Gardener Plant Sale will offer a variety of perennials, herbs, indoor, annuals and vegetable plants. A native plant section will feature plants native to our region, perfect for creating pollinator habitats and easy-to-maintain landscape spaces. The sale will include opportunities to purchase gardening-themed apparel, gloves, garden décor and more! Master Gardeners will help you select the best plants for your gardens and landscapes, sharing their favorite plants and recommendations.

Whether you are an experienced or new gardener, the Master Gardener Plant Sale is the perfect place to learn. Throughout the sale, Master Gardeners will give gardening presentations, sharing educational topics to showcase the endless possibilities for your growing spaces. Our Ask the Master Gardener Help Desk will be available to answer those pesky gardening questions, provide information about best gardening practices, and discuss hot topics, such as the box tree moth and giant hemlock.

Young gardeners are invited to visit our children’s area to learn about fireflies and night-time pollinators. And take a break from your shopping to listen to a children’s story that will delight the young and young at heart.
