Hey all, looking for some advice. I’ve never done a garden before but this year I put some seeds in just to see what happened. Everything took better than I expected so I built a ton of stands and decided to roll with it.
Cucumbers are in the stands and tomato’s are in the pots. I have a few pepper seeds sprouting on my kitchen table as well.
Do I have enough space for all these or will I eventually need to build larger planter boxes? Space is kind of limited that’s why I’ve gone with my current approach.
Any input is appreciated!

There’s a pretty good chance you’re going to need more pot space for those plants to thrive. As hard as it might be, you might want to reduce the number of cukes in those pots. They are going to get crowded and suffer when they get larger and run out of root-room. Those pots looks a bit too small for a single cuke, so just a thought (i use a 5gal minimum pot for cucumbers). It looks awesome right now though!
Looking at those stands, the cucumbers are going to completely overtake what you have built out there unless they are a dwarf/patio/bush variety. Do you know the gallon size for the cucumbers planters? You’ll prob want to thin those down to one each. For the tomatoes, depending on variety/size you may need to up pot them. Indeterminate varieties can get huge. For the time being, fill up those tomato containers as high as you can. Don’t move the plant but put more soil in, they’ll grow roots along the stem and get stronger.
somebody’s got some woodworking skills!
it all looks great but yes, tomatoes can take up a ton of space plus need support later when they’re bigger……but if they’re ON the deck you could potentially utilize your railings for that
For reference, in a garden tomatoes would be spaced 2-3′ apart (depending on variety) and grow 4-6′ high (depending on variety)….that is if given the chance. Some don’t even think a 5 gal bucket is big enough, but fabric bags are cheap and available.
