Gardening Club continues to grow, with pupils from Years Seven and Eight developing the School’s growing spaces through weekly sessions on Thursday lunchtimes. A committed core group of Year Eight pupils are taking a leading role as the Club develops.
With support from Head Gardener, Mr Malinowski, and Assistant Gardener, Mr Godfrey, pupils have recently introduced two bespoke raised beds, creating additional space to grow a wide range of produce. From potatoes to cucamelons, pupils have selected and planted their own seeds, with early seedlings already beginning to emerge. During the latest session, cauliflower seedlings were planted into the beds, while seed potatoes were carefully placed into large tubs and beans were sown directly into the soil, marking an exciting start to the growing season.
The work of Gardening Club can already be seen across the School site. During the Michaelmas Term, pupils planted winter hanging baskets outside the Science and Clock Blocks, while the Lent Term brought daffodils to the Long Walk. This term has focused on developing the new raised beds, with crops grown from seed now steadily establishing.
Alongside their practical work, pupils have also been invited by Mrs Nicholls to design and present proposals for a Wellbeing Garden. It is hoped that this space will be completed in the Michaelmas Term, providing a calm and reflective area for pupils to enjoy during the School day.
As the Trinity Term progresses, Gardening Club members will compile a seasonal journal documenting their work from September to July, which will be entered into the Worcester Show in August. This will provide a lovely record of the pupils’ commitment and the progress made across the year.
Gardening Club has quickly become a valuable part of School life, giving pupils the chance to learn practical skills, spend time outdoors, benefit from the expertise of the Grounds team and take pride in seeing their work taking shape around the site, we look forward to seeing what comes next!
