Fasciation!
“Fasciation is a rare, usually harmless,, and often bizarre deformity in vascular plants where the growing tip (apical meristem) becomes flattened, producing wide, ribbon-like, or coiled stems and flowers instead of cylindrical ones. It is often described as a “crested” or “fasciated” growth form and is caused by genetic mutations, infections, or environmental stress.”
