first time getting dahlias. i got these from a nursery over the weekend, they were in a smaller pot which i just moved to these bigger ones. after reading some of the posts i’m now second guessing myself if they’re big enough. i’m in zone 7b. idk the size of the pot, prob need to get a measuring tape 😅

not sure what’s the pink one called as it didn’t have label, but the yellow is XXL DURANGO

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

I’m a novice, but I read that they need to be in 7-10 gallon pots (bags). These pots seem to be 5 gallon? I’m interested in others’ opinions.

These look like miniature varieties. They should be fine.

If they stay in a smaller pot, you’ll have a smaller plant.

I use 7 gallon bags with no issues. These seem small to me. You’ll have to water more.

Looks like you got the border/landscaping varieties and your chosen pots are perfect for those shorties.

You’ll get nice blooms all season but on shorter stems, which is still fine for displaying indoors since you’ll be deadheading them to prolong the blooming season anyway.
