First Plant in a Food Forest ๐
Whenever someone asks me, โwhat is the first plant that I should plant in a food forest?โ I usually say a banana!
Bananas have so many advantages. They are quick growingโsome produce fruit in a year. They are a great source of organic matter to create soil with. They create a microclimate for plants that like shade. They are delicious. But I personally grow them because I think they are one of the prettiest plants in the world. Every time I see a banana, I feel a connection and a sense of joy.
The great thing about bananas is you plant 1 plant, and before you know it, you have so many new plants, you have to give them away.
I currently have 13 varieties of bananas in my food forest. Yes, 13. What about you? Are you growing bananas? Whatโs your favorite type to grow? Do you find the same joy and connection that I feel with this plant?

I live in NH . Lol I don't think I can grow a banana.
Can these grow in the southern part of the United States?
We call it sucker!
Are you in central Florida? Looking to start my food forest and need a community to help me get my plants
how many bananas can it grow???
I'm in Oregon and I have a Banana tree. Problem is, Oregon isn't tropical enough to get actual bananas. It does make bananas but they are only 2 inches long. lol Remember, once your banana tree flowers, it will die, but no worries, you already have pups.
SMART ! GREETINGS !.@ DI-Ry ..
That is exactly how I did just factoring in bananas are really just overgrown grass. Cut them back replanted an they should fruit this spring in the more northerly part of New Zealand ๐
The innermost pith of a bananaplant is highily valued for its properties to break stones in the urinary system. Here in south of India, a salad is made with the pith n eaten regulary. Most efrective for those consuming plenty of meat

You just sold me on getting one for our house! I absolutely love โfreeโ plants.
Love the green. Happy growing ๐
Plz watch out for frogs living in the leaves. I chopped a frog in half once and it ruined my day.
