How can I separate the roots of these bulbous geophyte ?

I dug them out of the soil yesterday.Now the surface of their roots has dried out. I want to separate the smaller roots from the larger ones,but I don’t know how should I do this that can avoid hurting them.Also,how should I store them. I hope to see them sprout next year ☺️
