Anybody know what this may be? Found in a can of great northern beans. It was about 1/4 of an inch long and has those two spikes that look like antennae. Honestly thought I found a snail head at first look. It was greenish brown in color. The thorns are very hard but the stem broke when I cut into it, an opaque coating was easily scraped off the outside.

Goat head seed. You’ll have a come to Jesus moment if you step on one
⚠️Caution⚠️ that looks like a piece of a Datura capsule, which would be seriously toxic! A collegue even found an intact capsule in a can of beans some years ago. Datura grows as agricultural weed and it seems to be a problem that Datura fruits are harvested along with the beans, especially with organic beans.
Edit: Never heard of goat head seeds, I suppose that is more likely than Datura.
Yikes, definitely a goat head seed. Must be nice to live somewhere that you dont recognize it, I bet all the neighborhood kids can ride their bikes freely without tire goop and foam inserts! 😅 Seriously though, I hate them with a passion and it might be a good Samaritan thing to contact the canning company and let them know that batch could be compromised with organic caltrops.
That’s my kidney stone I’ve been looking for that sucker since it passed
Goathead, its Washingtons state plant
Goathead sticker seed (**Tribulus terrestris**). They’re native to the southwestern arid parts of North America. They grow prolifically here and have a reputation for popping bike tires and punishing the feet of any creature foolish enough to walk barefoot around here.
They’re a common weed in areas with disturbed soil like farmland or lawns, which explains how it ended up in your beans.

Goathead, nasty little thing to step on. They are annoyingly common in my area.
So many bike tires flattened by these when I was a kid growing up in central Washington.
