So I got my first couple african violets a few months ago, and they've both flowered, but they are super flat. I see other people's pretty plants, and they all seem so perky and mine just seems sad. Is this self watering pot not a good idea?

How do the leaves feel? Are they crisp or soggy? If they’re crisp then that’s probably just the way that plant grows. If they’re soggy then there’s something wrong.

Some are just flat. I call them “my dinner plates”. Some have leaves that curl down. Some have leaves that are all perky.

Here’s one of my dinner plates. She’s a plant I grew from nadeau’s fantasy seeds. I have a lot less “dinner plates” than any others so I really cherish them. If this fantasy would just stop blooming, I could repot.

Touch the leaves, if the leaves are soft to the touch and the color of the soil is brown then it’s a clear sign to water it

Considering the leaves are also curled under slightly along the edges, it could be excessive lighting, too. Which barrina lights are you using and how close are they to the plants?

How long do you keep them under the lights?
