

*Before you comment: I know these won’t grow true to seed, I know they’ll take forever to produce fruit, if they even do, I know it’s better to buy an established plant, I do not care.
Never seen this before. Normal seedling in second slide.
These seeds came from some random store-bought strawberries. I wanted to run a little experiment by scarifying the seeds in bleach. One batch was not scarified, one batch was scarified for 20 minutes, and one batch was scarified for 45 minutes. No non-scarified seeds have sprouted yet. After only 9 days, one of the 20-minute seeds sprouted, and two of the 45-minute seeds sprouted. I left the packets with the seeds at my mom’s house, so I won’t know until Friday how many more germinated.
