I now have two apples. The first (pic 1) is about 2.5 years old and is grown from a store bought pink lady apple. It’s my “bastard” tree, because it’s actually two sprouts that crossed over and became connected at the base, should I cut the small shoot off as it may be acting as a sucker?
Then there’s my wives new (pic 2) dwarf tropical apple purchased from a local nursery at a show over the week end. She was told it’s a group 2 pollinator and although it’s a self pollinating plant it SHOULD pollinate our existing tree. I’m not in love with the look of the leaves but it’s in the ground and we will see what happens. They are planted in full sun positions 4m apart.
Any general advice otherwise?

They need plenty of water everyday.
Put split plastic piping around the trunk to the height of a rabbit standing on its back legs to stop them from chewing at it.
You’re probably going to have to graft from another tree on to your “bastard tree” to get edible fruit.
ETA: You can see the graft on the new tree toward the bottom.
