BEND, Ore. — The Worthy Growing Club is helping people kickstart their gardens with a Spring Plant Sale.

Each growing season, the garden club grows a few extra crops in the farm to sell to community members. The club offered herbs, tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables ready to be planted in a home garden.

The garden club’s Executive Director says the club picks crops that can survive in the harsh high desert climate.

“We also have the potential to have a frost any time of the season. It’s a very hard place to garden, so we choose varieties that they have short maturation dates,” Worthy Garden Club Executive Director Lisa Sanco said. “Which means hopefully you’re going to get that harvest as soon as possible pending any inclement weather.”

Money raised from the sale directly funds other agricultural programs at the garden club. If you’re new to gardening and don’t know where to start, Sanco says the club hosts workshops and lessons to get into gardening.
