We've had a contractor, a logger, and an arborist out on the property to look at our trees, and they all agree that this tree is dying, needs to come down before it falls down, and will be a humungous pain in the ass to remove. TL;DR: they report it is rotting and hollowed from the inside out, and a number of upper branches are shedding bark, aka dying. The tree is estimated 80-120 ft tall.
I'm just here for any second opinions and advice on how to even begin affording such an operation. 😠We've only lived here for like 3 years man, this FULLY sucks.

Ya it’s done. That particular king is losing its crown
Was it a certified arborist?
If you’ve had multiple people tell you than probably yes. I wouldn’t take any chances on a cottonwood. Short lived and prone to failure
Cottonwoods do not get along with buildings, roads, paths or people.
Sooner you get rid of it, the better.
Can’t see much of what’s around it from the pictures. But yeah these things evolved to get big, rot out, fall over, and turn into soil. Fine if it’s alone in the woods. Destructive to human endeavors.
Remove it and plant an oak tree in its spot
That tree will outlive you 10x over. Maybe not in that specific shape. But it will live far beyond your short time span.
That tree laughs at you.
How much have they quoted for the removal? Might by worth calling in a ASCA arborist or someone with access to sonic tomography to help you with the decision making.
I am sure it is fine. I mean, sure you had multiple professionals out to look at it and have said it needs to be removed. I am 100% certain that they are right, but there is nothing important or dangerous that the tree could fall on. I know that 500 gallon propane tank in the bottom right is absolutely 100% huge ass fucking tree proof. Also that shed or small house is build out of solid steel. So the tree should bounce right off no issue….
Any chance anyone knows of a more affordable way to get a massive fuck-off tree removed for safety reasons? Or is this one of those “just use $10k of credit and pay off the debt in 10 years” situations?
That’s two trees.
What excatly makes it look like its dying?
Depending on where you are in Western WA, check out https://www.guiltyoftreeson.com/. He’s got a youtube channel that pops up in my feed from time to time. Maybe he’d cut you a deal if this is a good candidate for a video?
