First time grower. Bought this patio tomato sapling from local nursery but dropped it on the way inside and the main stem broke. I planted it deep in a bucket with ocean forest/happy frog soil so more roots can develop but was curious if it will even survive/grow. Any advice or help is appreciated!

My guess is that it’s going to be sad perhaps even downright dramatic about the whole thing but will eventually send out new branches from the leaf nodes. I’d give it 70/30 odds of survival.

Sometimes the tomatoes that take some pretty severe damage come back vigorously and can become the most productive

  3. Yup, it will grow suckers to replace the broken stem, don’t worry.

It might! Tomatoes can be pretty tough. Hope for the best, keep watering as usual. Good luck! Let us know!

Trim the top down even to that branch you have left. Dappled light for a few days.

Chances are it will recover. You can even take the piece that broke off, put it in some water and it will grow roots after a few days. Then you can take it and plant it as a whole new plant.

Wouldn’t be better just to get another plant?

  8. Since the main stem has been cut you would be much better off replacing the plant since it’s so early in the season.

Yeh if it’s looked after and it’s still early in your season, you won’t be able to tell by the end.

I’ve had tomatoes eaten by possums down to no leaves more than once as seedlings and by the end of the season they’ve been over 6 feet.

I don’t grow determinate tomatoes but I suppose they’d experience a loss of production.

Denke ja. Sie wird aus dem seitlichen Blatt neue Triebe geben. Lass sie dann und das wird. Je nach dem wie lieb du diese Sorte hast und ob man sie leicht ersetzen kann.
