Hi, we bought a house last year and have just had this plant flowering for the first time. I’m pretty sure it’s some sort of rose as it’s smells so strongly of rose. I just haven’t seen a rose bush with white so big flowers before. Also, what should we be doing to best take care of this going forward. At the moment it’s just a free standing bush.
Thanks!

    Beautiful!

Cut off spent flowers as they come with sharp seceturs (when the flower is old and wilted.)

No pruning required until later in the year or next spring, so other than that just feed it every couple of weeks with a high potassium feed.

Granular rose feed in April June. Liquid seaweed in May and July. Deadhead as needed and pick up any fallen leaves. November clear any remaining flowers and lightly shear to prevent wind rock. Prune hard early Jan.

You have good advice so far. Look out for any rough spots or sign that you might need to buy a chemical called rose guard to spray on the leaves.

And that is one stunning. Stunning Rose!

It has old rose genetics, possibly a Bourbon although the stems look different. Prune lightly if needed, don’t prune hard in early spring like other modern roses.

Old, well rotted horse shit around the base in the autumn & spring. Ditto volcanic rock dust-mine love that stuff.

Have the same rose type. It’s beautiful and fragrant.

I prune it pretty regularly (2-3 x per year), it always regenerates very well.
    Feed via pellets twice yearly.

    14 years and going strong.

I’ve also inherited some mystery rose bushes this year. It is ok to cut the flowers for vases and that will encourage more flowering? Or do they only flower once? Theyre growing rapidly.
