Nothing about it was remarkable on the surface — early light coffee in hand backyard quiet in the particular way backyards are quiet before the neighbourhood fully wakes up
Except our backyard was not quiet
Because the weekend before we had built something 🌿
A proper bird feeding station — thoughtfully positioned carefully stocked with the right food for the species in our area fitted with a fresh water dish cleaned and filled the evening before sheltered by planting chosen specifically to make visiting birds feel safe enough to land and stay awhile
And on Tuesday morning they came 😭✨
First one Then three Then a conversation of wings and colour and song that filled the garden with a kind of genuine wild aliveness that I genuinely did not know I was missing until I sat in the middle of it with my coffee going cold in my hands and my phone completely forgotten on the table beside me 💚
