Okay I know it’s not red asparagus. I see this frequently when walking my dog. Chat GPT swears it’s a red yucca, but I don’t ever recall seeing the flowers that red yucca seem to have. This plant is in Missouri. It’s a perennial.

Yucca, but I have no idea about variety. Our plants produce green stalks.

Many yuccas don’t bloom very often, and take a long time to mature.

Fun fact: yucca are in the same family as Asparagus. That’s why the stalks look so similar when they sprout.

Distance related to the asparagus but more related to agave plant which also in the asparagus family. The shoots are edible and tastes like asparagus. This is wild as the asparagus plant look nothing like an agave.

  5. I have a cluster of these and they’re indestructible…I’ve hacked them out of the ground repeatedly and they come right back …

Definitely yucca. I’ve poisoned mine more times than I can count and I’ve given up. Eventually they cluster too tightly and kill themselves.

Fun fact, iirc, Yucca and Asparagus are closely related.

Omg TIL the two ridiculous bush plants at the end of my driveway are yucca!!! 🙌🏼 They always remind me of a high schooler; a hot mess and can’t make up their minds as to whether they’re coming (thriving) or going (look like they’ve been hacked by a toddler)!! 🤣👏🏼 Thanks guys!!
